Okay, this is a topic that interest more the italian part of the forum, but is absolutely a question mark.

Camila Giorgi, actually #74 of Wta Ranking but maybe one of the most important hopes of italian tennis for next years, has been banned by FIT (Italian Federation) for nine month from Fed Cup play.

Basically this year Giorgi will not play in Fed Cup, but obviously this is a crash also for the future. The point is not if italians have to cry or not to cry about this, but if this decision have or not have a sense. The reason at the base is Giorgi has refused a Fed Cup convocation last year, without a valid motivation. For italian federation Fed Cup is very important and reject a convocation is like a "betrayal" to the italian people. At the same time in the tennis world refuse a convocation is quite normal (see Williams sisters, Sharapova and so on), and Fed Cup is absolutely not a soccer world cup.

This is just the news with a little background, but what do you think about this? Independetly if you are italian or not, if a player refuse a Fed Cup convocation for your country, how would you take it?

I don't exactly get what's the point of it.
Why prevent a player from playing future matches when she was initially selected and therefore considered able to win matches? That means depriving the team of her talent for meetings where she would accept to play, it makes no sense. If she does not think it is currently good for her career, she is free not to accept the selection and come back even stronger for the next times.

Well, in Italy don't accept a national convocation is a sort of "offence" to the federation, is different than in other countries where could be only a player choice. I don't know if the right idea is the italian or the foreign, but here the problem is the punishment: what kind of punishment is don't permit to play fed cup to a player that explicitly won't play it? Is like punish a person don't want to start a job preventing he from starting a job :wwac: Also, if he had been an olympic year, that punishment could have a sense, but in 2017 the only part weakened from this action is the italian federation...i'm very confused about this.
